Privacy Policy
Last updated: 24 September 2026
This policy explains what personal information Bright Dressage collects when you use this website or get in touch, why we collect it, and what your rights are. We keep it simple: we only collect what we need to reply to you and to run your lessons, coaching or competition packages.
Who we are
This website is run by Joseph Bright, trading as Bright Dressage, Cork Farm, Long Hill, Old Wives Lees, Canterbury, Kent, CT4 8BN, United Kingdom. Joseph is the data controller for any personal information collected through this site.
If you have any questions about this policy or your information, email info@brightdressage.com.
What we collect
When you send an enquiry through the contact form, we collect:
- your name and email address
- your country, if you give it
- the service you are interested in
- anything you tell us in your message, such as details about you and your horse
If you book a session online, our booking provider collects your name, email address, the session you have booked and any answers you give on the booking form. Payments are taken by the booking provider's payment processor. We never see or store your full card details.
If you become a client, we will also keep the information needed to run your lessons, coaching or competition packages, such as contact details, booking history and relevant notes about your horse.
How we use it
- to reply to your enquiry and arrange lessons, coaching, clinics, competition packages or other services
- to manage bookings, payments and the day to day running of your service
- to keep business and accounting records we are required to keep by law
We do not sell your information, and we do not add you to a marketing mailing list without your permission.
Our lawful basis
Under UK data protection law we rely on:
- Contract, where we need your information to provide a service you have asked for, or to take steps before you book
- Legitimate interests, to reply to general enquiries and run the business sensibly
- Legal obligation, to keep financial and tax records
- Consent, for anything optional, such as sending you news or offers. You can withdraw consent at any time.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of trusted services to run this website and our bookings. They only process your information on our behalf:
- Netlify, which hosts this website and receives contact form submissions
- Calendly, for online bookings
- Stripe or PayPal, for taking payments through bookings
- our email provider, to receive and reply to your messages
- our accountant, where needed for our business records
Some of these providers are based in, or store data in, the United States. Where information is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or the UK-US data bridge.
We will only share your information with anyone else if the law requires us to.
Cookies
This website does not use advertising or analytics cookies. Our fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google's servers and shares your IP address with them. If you use our online booking calendar, Calendly may set its own cookies to make the booking work. You can control cookies in your browser settings.
The Instagram section on our home page shows images loaded from Instagram's servers, which means your browser shares your IP address with Meta when those images load.
Links to other sites
Our site links to other websites, including our sponsors and supporters, British Dressage, and our Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and TikTok pages. We do not share your information with our sponsors. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for how they handle your information.
How long we keep it
- enquiries that do not lead to a booking: up to 12 months
- client records: for as long as you are a client, then up to 2 years
- invoices and payment records, which show your name and what you paid for: 6 years, as required by HMRC
Keeping it safe
We use reputable, secure providers and limit access to your information to the people who need it to look after you.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
- ask us to correct anything that is wrong
- ask us to delete your information
- object to, or ask us to limit, how we use it
- ask for your information in a portable format
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent
To use any of these rights, email info@brightdressage.com. We will reply within one month.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated.
